It is a type of large dockside gantry crane found at container terminals for loading and unloading container to and from container ships, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Container cranes consist of a supporting framework that can traverse the length of a <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  href=\"https:\/\/rbs-tops.com\/id\/glossary\/quay\/\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>quay<\/a> or yard on a moving platform called a spreader. The spreader can be lowered on top of a container and locks onto the container&rsquo;s four locking points using a twist-lock mechanism.
