International Terminal (TCIT) in Vietnam, had just achieved a remarkable
milestone on 17 December 2020. Despite all odds of fighting changes from the
pandemic, TCIT welcomed over 2 million TEUs this year &ndash; up 7% last year. Not
only does this mark over six times what they started in 2011 but establishes a
breakthrough as the first deep-water terminal apart from Tan Cang &ndash; Cat Lai
Terminal, and second <a class="glossaryLink"  href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/container-terminal/"  data-mobile-support="0"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>container terminal</a> to accomplish this record. </p>

Automation and the Cloud have been the most substantial technological advancement to date for terminal operating systems, downplaying the significance of real-time control and planning, which supports in-memory and parallel processing.</p>

Only then can accuracy and precision derive from the decisions made within a terminal. However, building a real-time connection without understanding the very depths of its architecture, represses an accurate depiction. <p style="text-align: justify;">The term &ldquo;real-time&rdquo; has been commonly abused to describe an environment that strays far from its semantics and tends to have contrary constructs representative of transaction processing. An online transaction should not be confused with real-time since the system is oriented in a method that processes data statically and sequentially. As a result, operators cannot work on any tasks or continue the planning process until they have successfully downloaded and retrieved the data from the previous operator on the <a class="glossaryLink" href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/servers/" data-mobile-support="0" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex="0" role="link">servers</a>. Transaction processing becomes increasingly complicated when workstation operators receive modified data, forcing the entire planning process to start from the initial stages. Sometimes the planning process continues without realizing the changes until CHEs have already received these instructions that are now deemed redundant, causing system hangs and erroneous moves from ensuing, which eliminates the chance for resource, CHE, and process optimization. Therefore, a transaction-oriented system has a strict structure that is not very reactive to changes, creating inflexibilities over control and removes agility in planning. A system architecture of this type is not feasible for running terminal operations and is not the pragmatic approach for operators who need reliable information to make accurate decisions.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">SNP is the largest <a class="glossaryLink"  href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/container-terminal/"  data-mobile-support="0"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>container terminal</a> operator in Vietnam, primarily established for its sea-port operation services. They have remained at the forefront as terminal operators in Vietnam, accounting for more than 92% of the market share in Ho Chi Minh City area and 50% nationwide. A vast portion of this renowned growth is awarded to Tan Cang &ndash; Cat Lai terminal, which has developed a consistent increase in container throughput since the installation of RBS TOPS Terminal Operating System in 2008. From 2011 to 2018, the terminal increased its annual container throughput from approximately 2.6M TEUs to 4.7M TEUs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Tan Cang &ndash; Cat Lai Terminal initially deployed TOPX Advance in 2008 as their graphical container planning and control system for port operations. By the end of 2015, they decided to adopt RBS&rsquo; TOPO Advance <a class="glossaryLink" href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/container-management-system/" data-mobile-support="0" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex="0" role="link">container management system</a> and have since been running the full TOPS terminal operating system. The terminal still accomplished outstanding results from using only a fraction of the features offered in TOPS Advance.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The terminal has ten berths and is equipped with 30 QCs, all of which have been optimized using TOPS Advanced to induce an increase in QCs mph. With this proven solution, terminal capabilities will continue to optimize on resources and operations, which in term will drive further enhancements in performance.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify"><a href="http://www.smelte.lt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Klaip&#279;dos Smelt&#279;</a>&nbsp;reported a record-breaking cargo throughput for 2018. The cargo turnover was up to&nbsp;5.14 million tons&nbsp;which is an increase of 72% on a year-to-year basis. A big part of the growth could be accounted to the additional container volume&nbsp;MSC&nbsp;was bringing to the terminal. MSC is the mother company of&nbsp;<a href="http://www.tilgroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Terminal Investment Limited (TIL)&nbsp;</a>who is the major shareholder in the Smelte Terminal. With the additional import/expert and also <a class="glossaryLink"  href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/transshipment/"  data-mobile-support="0"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>transshipment</a> volume the container traffic was up to 386.982 TEU in 2018.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">In December 2018 new container cranes have been delivered to the Multipurpose Terminal in Pelindo 1, Indonesia. The Kuala Tanjung Multipurpose Terminal (KTMT) Port, North Sumatra, will extend its services with these new container cranes. Together with the STS cranes, the terminal will operate automated RTGs (ARTGs) with the RBS&nbsp;<a href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/products/tops-terminal-solution/">TOPS System</a> as the central TOS to control and manage the operations.</p>

The terminal operator CNMP &ndash; operating in </strong><strong>France&rsquo;s largest container port &ndash; has successfully completed the implementation of its TOS system, </strong><strong>TOPS Advance provided by RBS. During the 14 months it took to complete the project, employees </strong><strong>have been trained up and an interface to the IT system of the French port authority AP+ has been </strong><strong>established. At the same time, CNMP has also updated its IT landscape.&lt;/p&gt;</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://cnmp.com/index.php/fr/" rel="noopener">&lt;p style=&quot;&rdquo;text-align:justify&rdquo;&quot;&gt;The <a class="glossaryLink"  href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/container-terminal/"  data-mobile-support="0"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>container terminal</a> CNMP</a> (Compagnie Nouvelle de Manutentions Portuaires) is situated in the port of Le Havre, the largest of its kind in France. Here, as is the case at all terminals, the Container planning and operations process is controlled using a <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/products/" rel="noopener"></a><a class="glossaryLink" href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/terminal-operating-system-tos/" data-mobile-support="0" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex="0" role="link">Terminal Operating System (TOS)</a> &ndash; which pretty much acts as the &ldquo;digital heart&rdquo; of the terminal. CNMP has been using its TOS software for more than 20 years. Due to the fact that its provider was unable to offer a further development of the existing system, CNMP decided to introduce a new type of TOS software and at the same time upgrade the now outdated IT infrastructure of the terminal. By choosing the real-time TOPS Advance system provided by Real-time Business Solutions (RBS) based in Sydney, Australia, alongside local partner RBS EMEA from Hamburg, Germany, the terminal operator managed to find a suitable partner for both parts of the project.&lt;/p&gt;</p>
<p>&lt;p style=&quot;&rdquo;text-align:justify&rdquo;&quot;&gt;The introduction of the real-time TOPS Advance system was completed within a time frame of around 14 months. During the project, the old TOS system and the processes were analyzed, the operator&rsquo;s requirements and expectations collected in workshops, and the system configured accordingly. The next step involved migrating the data and processes to the new system, putting them through their paces in test mode, and training up key users. Furthermore, an interface to the AP+ <a class="glossaryLink" href="https://rbs-tops.com/vn/glossary/port-community-system-pcs/" data-mobile-support="0" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{"attribute":"data-cmtooltip", "format":"html"}]' tabindex="0" role="link">Port Community System (PCS)</a>, the official system of the French port authority, was established. It took just one day to make the switch and launch <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/products/tops-expert-cloud/" rel="noopener">TOPS</a> Advance as a live system. Didier Michaux, Terminal Manager at CNMP, explains: &ldquo;During a board meeting that day, those in charge were asking why the go-live date for TOPS had been pushed back. No congestion of any note in the area, no angry calls from angry customers either. I was able to tell them that the go-live was taking place at precisely that moment. Compared with the usual go-lives of <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/glossary/tos-terminal-operating-system/" rel="noopener">TOS</a> systems, this seamless changeover was truly remarkable.&rdquo; The switch was completed without any performance problems. At the same time, CNMP now has a completely new IT infrastructure as a turnkey solution with a secure data and process environment.&lt;/p&gt;</p>

After <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/2018/07/smelte-with-record-month-in-june-2018/" rel="noopener">record breaking month of June</a> also the volume handled in <a href="http://www.smelte.lt/en/news/cargo_turnover_in_july3" rel="noopener">July 2018</a>&nbsp;(41.208 TEU)&nbsp;was significant. So this is now the right time to get ready for the growing future, making <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/references-customers/" rel="noopener">JSSC Klaipedos Smelte</a> ready being a <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/2013/05/built-to-last/" rel="noopener">1.000.000 TEU transhipment</a> hub. Bing a part of the MSC and <a href="http://www.tilgroup.com/" rel="noopener">TIL</a> network the <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/success-stories/klaipedos-smelte-taking-the-next-step/" rel="noopener">past investments are paying off</a> and initiate new investment.</p>
<p>The terminal ordered two additional <a href="https://www.konecranes.com/resources/media/releases/2018/konecranes-wins-large-repeat-order-for-container-cranes-in-lithuania" rel="noopener">Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and 10 Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG)</a> from <a href="https://www.konecranes.com/" rel="noopener">Konecranes</a>. The delivery is expected to happen end of 2019. The <a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/glossary/rtg-rubber-tyred-gantry-crane/" rel="noopener">RTGs </a>will be ready to be fully electrified for future efficient operations.</p>
<p>In combination with the RBS<a href="https://www.rbs-emea.com/products/tops-expert/"> terminal operating system</a> (TOS) TOPS Advanced implemented at the terminal, this is a powerful and future save combination that will enable the terminal to deliver good services to their customer.</p>
